On October 31, 2019, Professor Chen Shumei of our college gave an academic lecture centering on the theme of how standardization promotes the construction of ‘One Belt & One Road’ – taking the China-Europe Railway Express as an example.
At the beginning of the meeting, Professor Chen briefly introduced the conception of "One Belt One Road" and explained the meaning of “five tong”: policy coordination, facilities connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration and person to person bonds. After that, she introduced ISO and used examples to illustrate the conception and significance of standards and standardization.
After introducing “One Belt & One Road” and standardization, Professor Chen Shumei combined these two conceptions and started a discussion. The topics are basically trade effects, the relationship between “One Belt & One Road” and interconnection, and the benefits of interconnection by China-Europe Railway Express.
By briefly introducing the operating mechanism of China-Europe Railway Express, Professor Chen Shumei mentioned the connection between China-Europe Railway Express and the standardization.
According to GTAP model and the results given, Professor Chen Shumei ultimately drew a conclusion of research: promoting track standardization is beneficial to the long-term development of areas along the route of “One Belt & One Road”.
