Starting as the program of International Trade in the English Department in 1984, the School of Economics and Finance (SEF) has now become one of the multi-disciplinary schools at SISU, playing a leading role in the theoretical study of economics and finance and accumulating rich experience in cultivating multidisciplinary talents in the field of applied economics. Its discipline of Applied Economics was listed in 2012 in the First-rate Discipline Development Plan for Institutions of Higher Education in Shanghai.
Program Overview
The Master of Finance (MF) Program at SEF provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in an increasingly complex and international financial environment. The MF Program will:
• Cultivate students’ global vision and diverse perspectives;
• Enable students to solve problems in corporation finance, securities valuation, pricing, risk assessment and investment management;
• Deepen students’ understanding of the principles and practice of modern financial tools and products;
• Prepare students for dealing with complex concepts and mastering knowledge required of modern finance professionals;
• Enhance students’ international communication and leadership skills needed for a career in the finance industry.
Program Features
“Double-certificate” teaching model
The MF Program adopts a “double-certificate” (master degree + qualification certificate) teaching model. Courses related to such certificates as Certificate Financial Analyst (CFA) and Financial Risk Management (FRM) are integrated into degree-related courses. The instruction methods include lectures on theories, case studies, seminars delivered by professors and experts from various countries, and lab simulation, etc. The languages of instruction are either English or English & Chinese.
Practical Education
Unlike other academic programs that are research-oriented, the MF Program puts more emphasis on practical education. Most of SEF’s faculty members have both academic credentials and real-world industry expertise. A six-month internship opportunity in SINOLINK Securities, Bank of Shanghai, HFT Investment Management Co. Ltd and other financial corporations will definitely develop students’ practical expertise.
Global Vision
The MF Program attaches great importance to broadening students’ vision. SISU and SEF have been actively involved in study-abroad programs and overseas exchange programs with prestigious universities overseas to develop their cross-cultural understanding. In the MF Program, cooperation has been established with universities in USA, Canada, Spain, Italy, and so forth.
Diverse Perspectives
SISU welcomes undergraduates in any major to pursue the Master’s degree of Finance. The cross-disciplinary nature of this program will expose students to the diverse thinking and practices in finance. This unique study environment helps to fulfill our mission of nurturing multi-disciplinary talents who excel in responding to the challenges in an increasingly complex financial market with diverse perspectives.

Corporation Finance
This research area aims at fostering future cross-field financial talents most sought-after in multinational companies.
International Investment and Financing Management
This research area aims at cultivating talents with the abilities of financial operation in terms of international capital integration and operation, multinational corporation investment and financing services, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, entrusted asset management and financial lease, etc.
Regional Finance
This research area aims at training experts in the following fields: international cooperation of regional finance, regional financial investment and financing optimization, regional investment and financing of public services,and regional economic planning.

Education and Academic Degree
Students who have completed the training programs within 2 years and meet the requirements of the Master’s degree of SISU will be awarded the certificate of postgraduate diploma and Master’s degree in Finance issued by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China.
