The Asia-Pacific College Students' Mathematical Contest in Modeling (APMCM) is a subject competition for the Asia-Pacific College Students hosted by the Beijing Society of Image and Graphics and organized by the Organizing Committee of the Asia-Pacific College Students' Mathematical Contest in Modeling. This contest is a highly influential basic subject and applied technology competition in the Asia-Pacific region. It aims to stimulate students' interest in independent learning outside the classroom and encourage students to explore the application of mathematical methods in practical problems. APMCM has a high domestic and overseas influence. The participating universities cover almost all the “Project 985”top Chinese universities and “Project 211” leading Chinese universities and the universities in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. There are also students from the United States, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan and other overseas universities. The number of participating students reaches more than twenty thousand people.

In 2020, with the support of the Graduate School and the Academic Affairs Office of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), the School of Economics and Finance (SEF) organized 17 teams of teachers and students from SISU to participate in APMCM for the first time. A few days ago, the results of the competition were announced, and the achievements of our students were outstanding. Under the guidance of SEF’s faculty members such as An Yulian, Zhang Mingqian, Li Lu, Liu Xiaoqian, 3 teams including SEF’s students Zhang Zhuoxin, Shi Mengcheng, Zhao Zhen won the second prize, and 4 teams including the students from SEF Sun Yifei, Wei Luqi, Wang Zhenting and Lou Tongxin won Third prize.

SEF has always attached great importance to the cultivation of our students' scientific   and technological innovation ability. With the support of the leaders of the School, it has actively organized students to participate in various subject competitions, and has achieved good results many times. This award is not only a staged achievement of our school's education and teaching work, but also an affirmation of the academic innovation and practical ability of our teachers and students, and has played a good role in promoting the School’s continuous efforts to strengthen the cultivation of innovative talents. Here, on behalf of the School, we would like to extend our sincere congratulations to the teachers and students who have achieved excellent results in this competition and heartfelt thanks to SISU’s leaders and relevant departments for their long-term support of the work of our school!
